About the Scholarship

We are pleased to announce a Research Scholarship of INR 1,00,000/- in Indian Scripts and Calligraphy. Interested candidates are invited to apply after carefully reading the details and terms. We hope this initiative supports the preservation and promotion of Indian scripts and calligraphy.

​The scholarship amount will be given for research in an Indian origin script (ancient or modern), excluding Roman, English, and Latin. It is open to individuals only. The work must be 60% practical and 40% research-based. Once approved, topics can’t be changed except in rare committee-reviewed cases. Research must finish within one year, with a 30-day grace if needed. Selection is through an SOP review followed by an expert panel interview.

Applicant must be below 30 years of age.

Must be an

Indian national.

Should practice calligraphy in at least one Indian script.

Should understand its history, anatomy of letters, and language basics.

Must be able to read the chosen script (except undeciphered ones)

Application Process

Statement of Purpose

  • Email a Statement of Purpose (PDF) with full research topic and relevant details.

  • Include a 1-year research plan since the scholarship is valid for one year.

SOP Content Requirements

  • Research Objective & Script Overview – reason for choosing the topic, along with the script’s history and current form.

  • Relevance & Future Scope – utility of the research, its applications and new directions planned.

Portfolio Submission

  • 2025 original artworks in one Indian language/script, each clearly dated.

  • Candidate is fully responsible for the originality of all submitted work.

Committee Review

  • Assessment Committee reviews SOP + Portfolio.

  • Any discrepancy in authenticity can lead to disqualification.

Interview (if shortlisted)

  • Shortlisted candidates are invited for a personal interview with the panel.

  • Final selection is based on performance + originality of research proposal.

Evaluation

The scholarship recipient’s work will be evaluated by a committee of four experts in art, design, and marketing. Their decisions will be final and binding. The candidate’s progress will be assessed at regular intervals through feedback sessions, held either online or offline. At the end of the term, scholars must present their research outcomes in the form of a thesis and final presentation. A plagiarism check will be conducted.
