 ‘Calligraphy Roadways' a program that took calligraphy with a twist to art colleges around India was the first venture in the year when I celebrate my 25 years dedicated to learning & propagating this beautiful art. Its inspiring response & overwhelming support laid the foundation stone for 'Callifest' 08'- Workshops, Exhibitions, Lectures & Demos.
'Callifest', as the name goes, is a basket of events bought together for the art lovers & art aspirants. Similarly it takes the participants & the visitors through a journey of calligraphy where one can delve in the topics ranging from the origin of the art form to the modern day scenario. The team of Urja- the calligraphic movement has put together an event which caters to the interest of artists, art teachers, art aspirants & students, art lovers & the common man.
 The main inspiration behind Callifest' 08 is creating awareness about calligraphy. Its an attempt to give back what I have so generously received. Thus I wish to impart my knowledge and experience gathered in my quest for calligraphy with the young, bright and energetic youth. I believe it's the youth of India who need to be educated on the rich and vast heritage of the Indian scripts. We have more types and scripts but, we fail to recognize their influencing strengths. The foreign land has a great influence on our mind and we need to understand that our native languages can also create the same beautiful magic of calligraphy like English and Japanese scripts. India's potential in calligraphy lies in its variety of scripts, languages. From crude symbols to picture scripts to letters Indian scripts have come a long way. LIPI has evolved from the Brahmi, the Kharoshti, Modi to the modern day Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Kanadi, Bengali etc. We are very fortunate to have a rich art heritage, diverse cultures, & have well adapted our living to the influx of foreign cultures. We at Urja aim to unite India under the banner of Art & Calligraphy.
It is my pleasure to propagate the aesthetic and commercial value of calligraphy in Indian languages among the students who have the great potential of becoming the Next-Gen artists of modern India. Callifest is a platform to artists (senior or junior) who do not have proper access, facilities & opportunity.
 Calligraphy the art of beautiful writing. An art form that has now reached common households. It is an art that cannot restrict itself to artists. I believe it's the 'Art of the common man'. We just need a broad mind, yearn to see beyond the certain rigidity of letters that has been embedded in our minds. There is a need to brush away the ignorance & familiarize this art.
Calligraphy and Typography has been a subject offered to art students for specialization. Others who do not opt lose touch with it. I have always experimented with calligraphy and proved it to be of great flexibility and of high commercial value. By flexibility I mean it gels with all other branches of art and even performing arts.
 The art form is truly an expression of ones mind. An expansion & a concrete depiction of ones ideas. Calligraphy inspires. It stimulates, It unleashes the great power and the enticing magic of letters, symbols, & scripts. Just the feel of the pen, the Boru, the smooth or textured paper makes the letters come alive through strokes and manifest themselves into a calligraphic masterpiece. This is the reason why even with computers and other high end technology around, this art has been cherished, appreciated and emerged as a commercially viable profession. Yet calligraphy can be effectively use modern technology to create good artworks. Callifest will attempt to release its hidden glamour.
 Calligraphy's nature to merge with other art forms has led to its beautiful use in commercial projects. Callifest will surely broaden horizons by means of using unorthodox medias, experimentative tools etc. it has emerged as a career choice to many.
Callifest will be India's answer to international exhibitions & events in art, especially calligraphy.
'Callifest' is going to be a peak of excitement, yet at times feels like the beginning of a new high.
